The Cinema seen by the Cinema

The cinema seen by the cinema, this is a movie theme which was already become familiar to us. It often represents an opportunity for the demystification of the 'dream factory', but not a mere attempt to satisfy the public's curiosity for the activity in the 'the backstage'. To this category belong not only the films about Hollywood. The self-portraits of the movie rise problems of creation and production and make reference to their own mythology and history. Time and again they materialize the need of famous directors for confessions. Billy Wilder, Federico Fellini, François Truffaut, Andrej Wajda, Mell Brooks and Luschino Visconti are only a few among those who have used this topic to ask questions about the meanings of their profession, to analyze the art-life relation and the effects of creation on the public. Sometimes the need for self-acquaintance materializes itself in the dialogue between the cinema and its past. The act of taking again some themes and characters, the fact of rendering homage to the successes of the forerunners, the evocation of some enthusiastic periods of the beginnings are just reasons for revaluations of so many renowned creations, undeservedly forgotten.
