In order to get trust, you need to give up yourself completely. You need to uproot yourself. You should only think of conveying to him. In that way, your mortal, physical body will finally disappear. Eventually, you will be left with only your essence. Once you achieve that, the remaining pain will melt away like snow. You will be able to cross the limits of life and death.

When I was at the temple, in order to cleanse my laity dust, kun sunim [a Korean title for addressing senior monks] asked me to kowtow a hundred thousand times. / What is laity dust? / It's the impurity in the heart. If you want to see Buddha, you must cleanse your laity dust. But I always thought of the outside world. So I started to kowtow a hundred thousand times. For 20 days, I neither ate nor met anyone. / Can a person still live going through that? / Of course. I intended to risk my life. During the process of cleansing my laity dust, even if I were to die during my worshipping. I was a bit frightened at the beginning. After 15 days, I was asking myself whether I would just die like this. But suddenly one day, everything disappeared. After that, I couldn't recall anything. Until the day I completed the full 20 days of worship, radiance filled the Heaven and Earth and then Buddha really appeared by my side. No, that's what I wanted to believe happened. In fact, Buddha didn't come to me. But rather it was the happiness from adhering to the promise of worshiping a hundred thousand times that made Buddha's face appear before my eyes. It was upholding a promise by staking one's life that made me shed tears of joy. It was an extremely good experience. 

Ep 7 – Although I am a slave, I am also a man. Since I have started [the gyeokgu], I won't give up halfway.

There are many things in this world that cannot be explained. Such is the case between a physician and a patient. When fate isn't right, a person who should have lived can meet with an aggrieved death. And a person who should definitely die can instead miraculously survive.

The relationship between a man and a woman isn't easily controlled.

Talent should be appreciated.

A fight between brothers is a domestic unrest.

Ep 8 – If one covets power, he has to be punished.

In fact, there always a reason behind everything. When the water is too clear, fishes won't be able to hide.

Buddha will always and eternally be with you.

The world isn't as simple as you think. There are many evil people all over the place.

After Spring ends, Summer comes. When Autumn arrives, Winter is near. The happiness experienced during youth is a transient joy. Meet and break up like water drops. What to do? What to do? I can no longer see my little children in front of me. But I walk out of a murderer's door.

Life is unpredictable.

Finally, all the lies are unmasked by the reality.

With no distracting thoughts, you won't lose your balance. It means self-restraint in your speech and behavior. Therefore, the path of life is virtually the same as the rope.

Paradise and Hell are within of your thoughts. In our Buddhist teachings, life and death isn't just between these two, Paradise and Hell.

If there is an afterlife, I won't want to touch politics, this ugly thing again. When I think about it now, it isn't something a person should touch.

Life and death is dictated by Heavens.

For someone who wants to rule this world, if he were give up on formalities, what else can he achieve?

Ep 12 – The etiquette between a teacher and a disciple, there is nothing more important than that.

He who gives no thoughts to the future is sure to be beset by worries much closer at hand. [one of the verses in the Analects of Confucius] – this verse means that if a person isn't farsighted, he'll certainly encounter worries in the next future. In other words, when one sets his target, he must make plans for it. For an issue lasting a day, one needs to plan for a year. Furthermore, it means that one needs to make plans for his whole life.

Among Buddha's sayings, the most profound is bodhicitta = mind of enlightment. If you don't have the aim to relieve all sentient beings of their sufferings, you can't be called bodhisattva.   

I think that a person's existences are a continuation of miseries and worries. Thus, the Koreana Tripitaka is a compilation of Buddha's sayings to resolve those 84,000 worries.

Only when there is peace in a family, will there be peace in the country.

When rats are desperate, they will bite the cats.

If we lose the commoners' support, what is the use of having political power?

I'm … not a dog that barks for food. Being a member of your private army, I'm only doing what I should be doing. Since it's part of my job, how can I receive a precious item [gold]?

Rejecting gold isn't something anyone can do. Just as you said, you aren't a dog.

Regardless how brave or strange the army is, once their leaders collapse, they will become ineffective.

What's the use of knowing only how to fight, you also need to have the brains.

Even if the enemy is powerful, if we know what is crucial, we can exploit it to resolve the problem. Then there will be a way out.

Ep 13 – Death is unavoidable to all men in history.

When it's time for one to leave, one should just leave with no regrets.

Power is really a very frightening thing.

Let us put a good fight before dying.

That's using an egg to strike a stone. It's pointless.

Escaping is the way to keep alive.

When one is too fortunate, one will provoke jealousy in people.

Do you think power is that easy to achieve? Power is granted by Heaven.

Water in a greenhouse will also turn foul when left to stand for a long time. Power is the same.

But even the sharpest sword blade will rust in time.

As officials, you exist for the commoners. You don't exist for the personal wealth and splendor. To the commoners, what does this homeland signify to them? This land is our Mother who gives birth to us. This country is our Father who raises and nurtures us. How can we forget and brush aside this divine and great homeland?

To ensure his safety and attend to his needs [Lordship Hapha], it isn't sufficient to be solely relying on braveness. One has to be knowledgeable and also sharp-witted and sensible.

One can't afford not to be cautious.

Ep 15 – Allegiance for life is the best way to repay.

Matters in this world are so unpredictable.

As the saying goes, public opinion is everything. .. Politics in itself means working for the commoners.

Some things you can be persistent in, some things you can't.

A marriage is the union of a couple living together for a lifetime.

People always say that fine clothes make the man.

Ep 16 – Good things will always bring with them some evil.

Ep 17 – Life is only one's experience of living in the mortal world.

No parents would kill their children with their own hands.

In the next life please fall in love with me.

Compared with a dead person, it's hundredfold better to live as a cockroach… Compared to death, it's probably better to be a monk.

Instead of focusing on his status, isn't more important to see if he is capable?

Getting into limelight in order to gain fame isn't a good thing.

Here is the place where people gather to serve the country. We don't mention status here. To change this society is not by our status. But instead our passion and common belief.

Ep 18 – One who pursues religious enlightenment should not have any emotional attachments.

To make a country prosperous the administration must be excellent.

I'm a warrior, who except for death, won't hope for anything else.

Ep 19 – The outcome of a war can only be known after the fighting is over. It is not decided by numbers.

A soldier's duty is to not surrender but to fight.

Being deeply pious is a good thing.

Who is this Buddha? / The Buddha who listens to sufferings of the humans livings in this world. / Mother, what is your wish? / Everyone has a wish that he or she can't say aloud.

He's as bold and powerful as a flying tiger.

I saw many people who got themselves into trouble by saying the wrong thing.

What's the duty of a warrior? / To fight and die with honor.

Ep 20 – War is something that cannot be predicted without trying.

The more difficult things are, the greater the need to draw support from Buddha's strength.

Eventually it still depends on who has a stronger fighting spirit, doesn't it? [on a battlefield]

Worshipping Buddha accumulates further grace and salvation.

Sunim, where are you going? / Depends on where my legs take me.

I heard that in times of a national crisis, civil officials were able to make great contributions. No matter how chaotic and difficult the country is, you must continuously look back to its history and identify talents.

Death is calling for us to come quickly.

Ep 21 – To mobilize troops without permission implies a failure to perform one's duty and a violation of orders.

If there is scope to fight, we should continue to fight it out.

Ep 23 – There is no difference between admitting a mistake and surrendering.

I know people cannot forget memories that are special to them. Matters in the past should be forgotten. Regardless whether you are a man or a woman, you won't forget your first love.

Will beasts know about morals?

The impression you leave on your enemy in war is extremely important. A person who kneels and pleads for mercy from the beginning and a person who has been beaten and trampled over yet does not lose esteem in others' eyes are completely different.

Newborn calf is not afraid of tiger.

Ep 24 – No matter which country, there will always be people who have power near of that of the king.

Actually, in a normal family, for an elderly man, it is better to have a virtuous wife in the family. In this way, you will not feel empty.
